Nathan Jack has some pondering to do in the next couple of weeks as he contemplates his harness racing drives in this year’s Haras Des Trotteurs Vicbred Super Series (2YO & 3YO Trotters).
Jack took the driving honours at the heats of the Series conducted at Maryborough landing five wins aboard Preferred Love (Love You), Violet Standard (Volstead), The Locomotive (Muscle Mass), Gotfeelingsyouknow (Majestic Son) and Shesawish (Wishing Stone).
There are two Finals in which Jack must choose between heat winners he piloted at Maryborough.
The 2YO Trotting Fillies Final represents a clear choice for Jack as he trains the unbeaten Violet Standard who took out the second heat while Anton Golino will need to find another driver for Preferred Love who was victorious in the first heat.
In the 3YO Trotting Colts & Geldings Final Jack must choose to take the reins behind the first heat winner The Locomotive, on whom he has won three Group 1 races, and the Anton Golino prepared third heat winner Gotfeelingsyouknow whom he has partnered to five wins from six starts.
The only Final where Jack doesn’t need to make a choice is in the 3YO Trotting Fillies Series where he will take the reins behind the Neville Pangrazio trained Shesawish whose clash with dual Derby and Oaks winner Rockinwithattitude and the Emma Stewart prepared Susan Is Her Name will be one of the highlights of the night at Melton on September 16.
Jack confirmed he will drive Violet Standard, a daughter of Volstead, in the 2YO Trotting Fillies Final.
“As I train her I have to drive her of course but I’ve got a lot of time for Preferred Love who is a real nice filly going forward,” Jack said.
Jack acknowledged the pending barrier draw could sway his decision on who to drive in the 3YO Trotting Colts & Geldings Final.
“It’s not that easy a choice and I might wait until the barriers come out if both camps let me,” he said.
“The Locomotive has been such a good horse to me so how could you not love him but a lot of my mates race Gotfeelingsyouknow.”
Jack concedes Shesawish faces the toughest task of her career in the 3YO Trotting Fillies Final.
“She’s probably half a rung below Rockinwithattitude and Susan Is Her Name but if those two fillies go to war then she’s a chance,” he said.
