Outstanding pacer Don Hugo (Art Major) lived up to his reputation with a strong harness racing win in the Second Heat of the Ladbrokes Inter Dominion Pacing championship at Albion Park on Saturday evening.

As expected driver Luke McCarthy allowed Don Hugo to settle down before sending him around the field. However instead of driving for the lead, he was able to position directly behind Captains Knock who had to race outside the leader Aroda.
McCarthy was in no hurry to make his run as he seemed intent on making just one main run at the leaders.
Captains Knock despite his torrid run forged to the lead but Don Hugo with his final run in the home straight drew clear to win by just over a metre from a very gallant Captains Knock and Aroda holding on for third.
DON HUGO JULY 5 REPLAY
In running his last quarter in 27.1 seconds Don Hugo seemed to have plenty in reserve. Apart from the first two runners the other seemed to struggle to stay in touch towards the finish .

However the race was marred with a scrimmage resulting in a number of runners including Nyack being severely interfered with and losing all chance so the run would be best forgotten.
Luke McCarthy reflected after the race.
“I like driving him with a sit I don’t often get the chance the way it pans out.”
“We had a bit of luck in running and he felt really good. He thrives on the runs. He just gets better with runs, it’s been three weeks between runs and transporting him up here, he’ll take plenty of benefit from that and looking forward to next week already.”
“As soon as I pulled him out and I knew he was the winner. He’s done his work nice late and it was good.”
“I think he’ll love it. He stays all day he’s so strong. Sometimes the best milers are great stayers. So he’s got that speed and another run under his belt next week we’re really looking forward to it.”
“You saw him in the Inters last year three runs in the week just done him a lot of good. He’s pulled up well now he’ll jump out of the ground with that.”
