Inter Dominion harness racing fancy Don Hugo (Art Major) showed why he will be hard to beat in next week’s final when he was too strong in the Inter Dominion Pacing Championship Third round Heat 7 at Menangle Park last night.
Caught three wide for at least the first 600 metres driver Luke McCarthy allowed the four year old
entire to settle down before going around the field to head off the leader Jimartee. Although he had
a fair amount of work in working to the front Don Hugo seemed to always have the edge over his
rivals
It was a race of many changes with many of the runners making their runs at various stages of the
race.
Shaken up in the home straight Don Hugo packed too many guns and he ran an easy 7 metre winner
over a game Jimartee with Jilliby Nitro filling in third position.
DON HUGO REPLAY
Driver Luke McCarthy was satisfied after the race.
“I thought he went super. They ran a 48.3 lead and he was out three wide and I had to use
him out wide. He raced really keen. I didn’t have him super hard for the first night at
Newcastle. But I knew he’d have to have three runs in the week. And he’s bounced back. He’s
easy to train. So hopefully we have a nice week and then come off with a good barrier draw.
I hope to come off the front row.”
