Double Helix (Majestic Son) and Pas Guarantee (Guaranteed) added their names to country cup leaderboards with respective harness racing victories at Sunday’s (Mar. 5) feature Boort meeting.
The Phillip Giles-prepared Double Helix added to his recent Central Victorian Championship Final triumph with a similar front-running success in The Honourable Peter Walsh/VHRC – Aldebaran Park Boort Trotters Cup before Jack Laugher guided Mark Thompson’s Pas Guarantee to a thrilling win in the Councillor Neil Beattie Family / VHRC Boort Pacing Cup.
Double Helix speared straight to the top from the standing start and was never headed on his way to a 6.8m victory over Show Me The Moolah, with Inter Dominion finalist Hatchback running third.
The result lifted the six-year-old to equal top spot on the season-long Maori’s Idol Trotting Championship alongside Dont Care and Keayang Livana.
Sunday’s $14,500 pacing cup was a much closer encounter.
After being sent around to the spot outside the leader and stablemate Missed The Truth from barrier eight, Pas Guarantee showed plenty of fight and stuck his nose out on the line to beat Cee Cee In America in a thrilling finish. Missed The Truth boxed on gamely to be third, a neck away from the winner.
Pas Guarantee’s victory was his first as a four-year-old and takes his career record to 10 wins from 29 starts for more than $70,000 in earnings.
The horse now sits just a point behind Trots Country Cups Championship leaders Cranbourne, Jilliby Sylvester and Major Meister in the early stages of the 2023 series.
