AN injury plagued $9000 purchase at the yearling sales has emerged as the horse to beat in next week’s Group 1 Vicbred Super Series (4YO Entires & Geldings) Final at Melton.
The Aaron Dunn trained pacer Eyethink (Sunshine Beach) chalked up his sixth consecutive victory when he scored an authoritative all the way win in the first Semi Final of the Series at Melton.
Eyethink ($1.35 fav) quickly found the lead from a wide front row draw and when Dunn released the reins with 400 metres to travel the son of Sunshine Beach quickly put a gap on his rivals and was eased down on the line to score by 10 metres from Roarforroscoe.
After the race Dunn recounted the health issues the pacer had to overcome as a young horse.
“He did a suspensory on the day of a heat of the APG and that was the end of him for about 12 months and I had people like Dad and Kevin Lane walk him every day and then jogged him and after five or six scans we got him back to the trials,” Dunn said.
“He trialled well at Hamilton and then couldn’t walk out of the stalls and we found he had done a back pastern and he had screws put in that and he was out of action again,” he said.
EYETHINK REPLAY
Dunn said he gave Eyethink a freshen up prior to his recent picket fence form line.
“I gave him two weeks off prior to this string of wins and he’s just come back huge,” he said.
Dunn is looking forward to partnering Eyethink next Saturday night.
“Hopefully he’s got a bit of an edge on them,” he said.
