It was an emotional result for father and son training partnership Richard and Emmett Brosnan at Bendigo tonight.
The pair registered their first Group 1 success together following Maori Law’s win in the Australasian Trotting Championship.
“It’s massive and means so much to me,” an emotional Emmett said following the moment.
“I’m stoked that I can win a Group 1 with my old man.
“Growing up I got to watch him win Group 1 races and it’s great to do it with him.”
Maori Law was driven by in form feature race driver Anthony Butt for the special moment.
After stepping well early in the 2650m stand and finding the lead, Butt then handed over the top position to Cover Of Darkness which proved to be the winning move.
With the leader fading, Maori Law burst through along the pegs to claim the $50,000 feature in a blanket finish over Im Ready Jet and Majestuoso who were close behind in second and third respectively.
That was Maori Law’s second success with the Emmett team and just his seventh start in their care.
Prior to his first start for the stable on January 23, 2021, Maori Law had not raced in eight months prior to that.
The son of Lawman has now won 17 races in 51 starts,
“It’s great to get a bit of a reward,” said Emmett.
“When he feels good he’s just such a sweet trotter.
“Ants drove him exactly the way he needed to be driven.”
