Harness racing trainer Emma Stewart brought up a quartet of ‘crowns’ on Breeders Crown night (Nov. 19) at Tabcorp Park when star pacing filly Encipher (Captaintreacherous) proved too strong in the $200,000 G1 3YO Pacing fillies final.
Encipher was all the rage having drawn so well in barrier two on top of her impeccable formline that has seen her in dominant form an closed a $1.10 favourite for the G1 feature.
Miss Chantilly (Captaintreacherous) gave the star filly something to think about when she was able to cross the favourite from wide out on the mobile. Unfazed, Kate Gath had the odds on shot out and around to assume control of the race and left her well fancied stablemate Amore Vita (Art Major) buried away three deep on the markers.
Gath dictated terms throughout and despite getting company from another stablemate in Soho Historia (Courage Under Fire) mid race, she proved too strong for her opposition in the run home, holding out the gallant Mark Pitt driven filly by 1.4m at the finish.
The New Zealand bred and owned Amore Vita sprinted well for third to lead home an Emma Stewart trifecta in the G1 feature. The 3YO fillies paced the 2240 journey in 2:42.9 with the last mile run in 1:57.0.
