Excitement building for APG Sale

It’s amazing to think there is just 17 more days until the start of one of the most exciting harness racing events ever seen in Queensland.

Why is the Gold Coast sale attracting so much interest?

With more than $400,000 in local APG prizemoney, and the additional excitement of the QLD Gold Bullion Filly & Colt winners progressing straight through to the massive 2 x $750,000 Menangle Final (should they elect to nominate), must be part of the answer.

In addition, astute buyers are clearly understanding the unmatched combination of ownership bonus’s and incentives that APG / QBRED yearlings have.

The QBRED Incentive Scheme continues to reward participants who own QBRED eligible horses in Queensland. This is achieved through the distribution of over $3.5 million in QBRED bonuses and feature race stakes, with prospective breeders and owners able to share in these benefits. The QBRED Incentive scheme sees the first-win bonus set at $14,000 at any age (regardless of how many interstate wins they may have had), as well as a further $7,500 cash bonus for their first QLD win in a subsequent season.

Having just 41 pacing colts and 36 pacing fillies on offer to compete for the massive $400,00,00 in local prize money, you can see why APG QLD has the reputation of the sale with the “Biggest Bang For Your Buck” .

Lot 73 – Betterthancheddar – Teamenup – Grinfromeartoear is a lot Burwood will have on display at the Gold Coast. This brown colt is from the famous N1 family (New Zealand’s best) and if it can match the success of family members shown below, it’s going to give its new owners (come January 23) an awesome experience.

Lot 15 – Betting Line – Cullens Jewel – American Ideal. Phil Mitchell of Peak Crossing is really pleased to have this brown/black filly under his care and why wouldn’t he? This filly is out of the extremely successful N5 family, where the blood of Bettors Delight (Betting Line’s sire) has been so strong, and winners included:

Lot 39 – Betting Line – Mardys Victree – Modern Art. Can’t wait to see this colt and he is the half brother of Rock With Sam winner of $239,415. This colt is also a very close relation to the G1 Winner in My Ultimate Levi who is also by Betting Line. The stars may just align for this colt, so mark him down as a must see on January 23 with Lindsay and Mary.

Again G1 success has already come for progeny by Betting Line from this family by winning the APG Brisbane Sales race in 2021. Talk to Mary and Linday about this filly from the N32 family.

Lot 60 – Betting Line – Pacific Cullen – Christian Cullen. It’s almost unimaginable to think that 21 of the top 25 Christian Cullen broodmare credits are by Bettors Delight. Clearly the Vagg’s believe Betting Line has the potential to do a job, just like his dad.

BLING IT ON raced and has always been in the top echelon of Australian harness racing throughout his illustrious career.

He won Group 1’s at the ages of 2, 3, 5, 6 and 9.

As a 7yo he bounced back off the canvas after suffering near career ending injuries from a race fall. He returned to the track with three consecutive victories, including two wins in what was his equal best race time.

While injured in the 2017/18 breeding season, the son of American Ideal stood at stud for an introductory year and served 92 mares. His fertility stood the test with 63 live foals (68%).  After being cantankerous in his paddock and after a thorough assessment of his leg injury a decision was made to put him back into work for the 2019/20 racing season. He would only race if he was able to compete in the top echelon.

At his first start back in 15 months he scorched around Menangle in a new personal best of 1:50.2.

He then ventured to Melton to take on the opening Grand Circuit event of the season where he was triumphant in the Victoria Cup, smashing the track record and running a world record 1:51.5 mile rate over the distance of 2000m-2999m.
