Running her last quarter in 27.4 Keayang Zahara had 9 metres to spare over a game Maori Mac with Jilliby Ballerini in third.
Keayang Zahara will likely back up for next weeks $75,000 Victoria Trotters Oaks and then she will head to New Zealand for the inaugural running of the Ascent worth $NZ500,000 to be staged at Addington in mid November. She is likely to be Australiaās only runner and will be a worthy competitor.Ā
Driver Jason Lee was unequivoval in his praise of the filly. āIt is awesome to be lucky enough to sit behind her. She was good. We didnāt want her to have too hard a run. Sheās pretty easy going these days but still got a bit of attitude. Itās a massive team effort with the family and crew who put in all the hard workā.
As expected Derek the Jet (Volstead) toyed with his rivals in the Speed Prince Final and in doing so gave his trainer driver Nathan Jack the perfect birthday present.Ā
Bouncing straight to the front Derek the Jet strolled along and was always clear of his five rivals. Kyvalley Michael tried to make a race of it along the back straight but Derek the Jet powered away to record an effortless win by just under 8 metres from Kyvalley Michael who just edged out Remus Phoenix.
