Star filly Anntonia took half-a-second off the Australasian three-year-old fillies record when winning the $150,000 Breeders Challenge Final at Menangle on Saturday night.
The daughter of Bettors Delight led throughout the 1609m Group 1 and stopped the clock in 1:49.8!
Driven by Jack Trainor, Anntonia was urged to the lead from barrier three and she dictated her own terms from there.
With an opening quarter of 27.6 seconds, Anntonia then went 28.4 before getting most of her rivals off the bit with the third split in 26.6.
The final quarter was 27.2 and in that time Anntonia put more than eight metres on her nearest rival Bettor Be Kept, who is also be Bettors Delight.
āIām so thrilled,ā Trainor said when returning to scale.
āItās a massive training performance by David Thorn . . . this filly wasnāt right six weeks ago and he has taken his time to get her back and she just keeps getting better and better.
āSheās starting to put it all together now and again, a credit to David Thorn as he has taken his time with this filly and hasnāt rushed her and itās paying off.ā
This success gave Trainor the third Group 1 win of his career and Thorn his eighth Group 1 success as a trainer.
As for Anntonia, that was her third Group 1 success this season having also won the New South Wales Oaks and Bathurst Gold Bracelet earlier in the year.
