Speedy harness racing filly Egret (Father Patrick) flew the gate early and then used the passing lane to her advantage to run clear in the Group 1 $80,000 Woodlands Stud Australia Breeders Crown 3YO Trotting Fillies Final at Tabcorp Park Melton tonight.
Egret’s driver Leigh Sutton blasted off the arm and was then content to trail the favourite Revelstoke in the running, while Kiwi trained filly Aldebaran Keeper (2nd fav) had to sit parked for most of the race in the nights first big Group One event.
In the run to the judge Sutton and Egret flew along the passing lane and ran clear to win a 1:57.4-mile rate, with the margin a widening 6.9m.
Egret was bred by Angela Morris who co-owns the filly alongside Pat Driscoll of Yabby Dam Farms.
Tonight’s G1 victory was the fourth race victory from her 15-start career.
