Aldebaran Miley had never led previously in a race however driver Chris Svanosio was keen to take advantage of the pole positon and urged her out of the gate holding out her main danger Cognati who had to be content with a trail.

Aldebaran Miley had sufficient in reserve to hold off Cognati in the home straight scoring by four metres in a mile rate of 2:00.9.

Svanosio said his pre-race plan was to hold the lead if possible.

“She’s never come out of the gate in her life as I have been just trying to get her away safely all the time, but tonight from the pole I was keen to get her out in front as I thought that was my best chance of winning,” Svanosio said.

“She was able to handle it really well and was able to muster speed and kick through to hold the lead,” he said.

Svanosio acknowledged the emerging rivalry between his filly and the Jess Tubbs trained Cognati.

“I’m hoping we do meet Cognati in some nice races to come in the next couple of months,” he said.

“There are some good three-year-old fillies’ races and there obviously wasn’t much between us in the heat.”
