Fight For Victory impresses in QBred 2YO Final

Outstanding harness racing colt Fight For Victory (Bettors Delight) showed why he is currently regarded as Queensland’s best two year old with a electrifying burst to take out the $50,000 Group 3 QBred Breeders Classic Final for 2YO colts and geldings at Albion Park on Saturday night.

Fight For Victory raised eyebrows with a brilliant win in the Changeover classic last month but in his QBred heat, he galloped away at the start giving the leaders an almost impossible start. However he was beaten less than one metre by Timmy Teo.

In the Final his stable mate Fire and Passion who had won his only two appearances was hot favourite and Grant Dixon who had four runners in the Final elected to drive Fire And Passion with his wife Trista taking the seat with Fight For Victory.

Smart colt Barsby found the early lead and Fire And Passion was three wide early before working up to race outside the leader. Outsider Boston Chief took the trail behind Barsby with Timmy Teo in the one and out back trail. Fight For Victory was behind those.

Barsby appeared to be holding Fire and Passion as the latter issued a challenge. However coming with a whirlwind burst Fight For Victory quickly put the issue beyond doubt and so fast was he finishing that he was just under 12 metres in front of Boston Chief who obtained an inside run for second with Barsby holding off Fire And Passion for third.

Fight For Victory’s time of 1.53.5 shaved 1.3 seconds off the race record which was held by Dangerzone.

At this stage Fight For Victory must be considered an early favourite for the Group 1 $500,000 Protostar a slot race for the two year olds to be run on 12 July.

He is raced by Kevin Seymour who has a slot in the Protostar.

For an outsider Boston Chief ran a wonderful race while Barsby and Fire And Passion battled away but they were no match for Fight For Victory who appears to have a great future.

The QBred 2YO Fillies Final was taken out by Chantal Turpin trained Beachbabe Crocker (Somebeachsomewhere) who caused an upset beating her more fancied stable mate Wontyoustaywithme. Driven by Angus Garrard Beachbabe Crocker enjoyed the trail behind the leader Stripes who tried to lead all the way and whose driver Tom Callaghan nearly stole the race with his front running tactics.

Wontyoustaywithme who was wide for much of the trip never looked comfortable and her run into fifth would be best forgotten.

The fillies ran 1.55.6 which was notably slower than the colts and geldings.
