A perfect draw has placed Ludacrous in a prime position to break her maiden status at an opportune time.
Third upon debut, Ludacrous was then second in a prelude at Club Menangle last week, which earned the daughter of Art Major a berth in harness racing’s Nutrien Final at the world-class venue on Saturday night (Aug 27).
To trainer Kate Hargreaves’ delight, Ludacrous will begin from the pole in the Group 1.
“She has done well at her two starts and is certainly ready to win,” Hargreaves said. “From barrier one we’ll be going forward looking for a prominent position early.
“If she can lead that will be great, but she can peel off the speed well, so the closer she is to the pace the better.”
To be driven by Nathan Jack, Ludacrous is vying for favouritism at $2.40 with TAB Fixed Odds.
Prelude winner, Scheming, heads the market at $2.15 from barrier seven.
“Scheming is the main danger, but the draw will make it tough on her,” Hargreaves said. “It’s a pretty even field with no stand out.
“It won’t be much of a surprise to see any of them win given how even it is…hopefully it’s us though!”
To be given a short break following the feature, Ludacrous will then be readied for the Australasian Breeders’ Crown in November.
The two-year-old’s targets also include the Vicbred Super Series the following month.
“She will be given a break after this before we work towards the Breeders’ Crown and Vicbred later in the year,” Hargreaves said.
