Cravache Dor (Orlando Vici) will be hoping to reinforce today he’s the cream of the harness racing crop when the Aldebaran Park Vicbred Super Series moves to Maryborough for the two and three-year-old trotting heats.
Having effortlessly won the Victoria Trotters Derby at Maryborough in October, the Anton Golino trained gelding will look to build on his recent purple patch, which has seen him net four wins from his past five starts.
But standing in his way at Carisbrook are a pair of promising up-and-comers in what looms as a mouth-watering battle over 2190 metres.
Plymouth Chubb (Majestic Son), last yearās Vicbred champion as a two-year-old, will start his defence from barrier two, while Hautacam, a Group 1 placegetter, has drawn gate three.
The second of the three-year-old colts and geldings trotting heats bills as a highlight of the 10-race card, which is wall-to-wall Vicbred Super Series qualifying races.
Courage Stride (Muscle Hill), who was placed in the Breeders Crown and Victoria Derby, has been installed a short priced favourite in the opening heat for three-year-old males, while the third heat looks a wide open affair with seven of the nine starters afforded realistic winning chances.
Classy stablemates Revelstoke and Courmayeur loom as the ones to beat in the second and the third heats respectively for the three-year-old trotting fillies.
The card kicks off at 12.19pm when royally bred The Locomotive will look to stretch his winning sequence to four from the pole in the first heat for two-year-old colts and geldings.
The second heat looks a match between Larr Dees Son and Ess Kay Hollywood, the second and third placegetters respectively behind The Locomotive in the Breeders Crown.
The program is then rounded out with the two-year-old trotting fillies, where the ultra-consistent Rockinwithattitude, off a brave fighting second in the Breeders Crown, and Cognati, the convincing winner of The Redwood, will lock horns.
In the second heat the talented South Australian filly Skew Whiff, a winner of four of her five starts, will make her Victorian debut from the pole. Recent Maryborough winners Salski and Miss Francene loom as the biggest dangers.
