Peter Bell and the team at Egmont Park Stud will spend this week putting the finishing touches on the 14 yearlings they will take to next weekend’s Sunshine Stars Yearling Sale.

With such a large group of quality yearlings to pick from, Peter has picked out his star lots to help potential purchasers with a starting point to find their next champion.

Lot 1

Egmont Stud will open proceedings on Sunday when Lot 1 enters the ring on account of Solid Earth Pty Ltd and this Vincent colt is out of the Bettors Delight mare Remember Ruby which won 14 races.

This colt is bred on the same cross as 11 winners including the 2023 2yo winner Vessem which won five races in his debut season on the track including the Group Two New Zealand Kindergarten Stakes on his way to $97,766 in stakes.

The second of the Egmont Park prepared yearlings Lot 20 is on account of GSM Racing Pty Ltd and is the second foal from the Bacardi Lindy mare Ultimate Daiquiri tr,1:59.7.

Lot 20

Ultmate Daiquiri won seven races and she is a half-sister to Australian Aged Trotter of the Year and four-time Group One winner Majestic Man t,1:53.5 $848,420.

Both Majestic Man and Lot 20 are by Australia’s Leading Sire of Trotters for the past eight seasons in Majestic Son. Majestic Son has also been New Zealand’s Leading Sire of Trotters for the past seven seasons and already has the lead on the premiership again in 2024.

Lot 38 is one of two lots by Always B Miki that Egmont Park is preparing and this filly, on account of Solid Earth, is out of the Mach Three 3yo Queensland Triad winner Get In The Groove p,1:54.5 $242,536 which is the dam of 2023 2yo winner Tamarah p,2,1:59.5.

Lot 38

This cross has already produced 19 winners including four $100,000 earners among them being star Victorian filly Joyful p,3,1:54.6 $203,665 and 2023 Redcliffe Oaks winner Cheer Leader p,2,1:53.4 $140,292.

The fourth of the quartet selected by Peter Bell for inspection is Lot 56 – a filly by Captain Crunch from the 3yo winner Laceys Legacy.

Laceys Legacy is a half-sister to Australian 2yo and 3yo Pacer of the Year Majestic Mach p,1:53.9 $796,397 and is out of the 100% Producer Midnight Lace – six foals for six winners.

Lot 56

Captain Crunch, the sire of 1:50 2yo Gem Quality $438,940 in North America from his first crop in 2023, has his first Southern Hemisphere crop set to race as 2yos in 2024 and already they are making waves both sides of the Tasman as they start to qualify for racing.

A son of Captain Crunch in Ukraine was an impressive winner of a Rangiora trial on January 17th winning by three lengths coming off the speed with a last half in 57.5 seconds.

UKRAINE REPLAY

On Monday 22nd January another Captain Crunch filly in Golden Shooz qualified for racing with an impressive come-from-behind win at the Geelong trials. She covered her final quarter in 29.5 seconds.

Two days later at Pinjarra the Captain Crunch colt Captain Stirling made his public debut winning a trial at a 2:00.6 rate over 1684 metres and while the field meandered early the last half mile went by in 57.4 seconds and the last quarter in a very slick 26.9 seconds.

Prospective purchasers who would like to check Peter Bell’s assessment of the yearlings under his care on sale day can contact him on 0418 885 033.

Just allow plenty of time as there are 14 yearlings to inspect and it would be silly to just look at the four mentioned here.
