Gipsy Princess relishes new surroundings

The Craig Demmler trained harness racing mare Gipsy Princess (Betting Line) has already reaped the benefits of her new surroundings after taking out the opening event at Melton. 

With Greg Sugars in the sulky, Gipsy Princess ($9) enjoyed a cosy run behind the leader Cool Night before making full use of the sprint lane in the home straight. 

The five-year-old scored running away by two metres from Steel Ruler with Cool Night a further two metres away third in a mile rate of 1:55.5. 

Three weeks ago Demmler made an important career move when he joined the formidable Jess Tubbs and Greg Sugars Myrniong based stable. 

“It seemed a good fit when we talked about it,” Demmler said. 

The multiple Group 1 winning horseman said his small team has already derived benefit from being domiciled at Myrniong. 

“The horses appreciate the whole set up at Jess and Greg’s place where they set the bar pretty high” he said. 

“It’s a huge advantage to be able to work with good horses and it gives me a good guide to how a horse is going.” 

Demmler said he expected a forward showing from Gipsy Princess who was having her third run back from a six-month spell. 

“Her trial was good, not many horses run their last quarter in 26.9 in a trial and she has really blossomed in the coat,” he said. 

Meanwhile Demmler is relishing his new leash of life. 

“I’ve had to deal with some fairly serious injuries in the past few months but Jess and Greg couldn’t have been any better to me and I really feel revitalized and looking forward to the future,” he said.
