With Australasian bred stallions now having established themselves in no uncertain manner in the top bracket as harness racing sires, Goodtime Sammy, who is standing this season at the Spurrs Stud, of leading studmaster Kevin Spurr at Wagin, has stud credentials second to none.

He is a son of the champion racehorse and sire Somebeachsomewhere, now a leading sire of sires, from one of New Zealand’s greatest families – that tracing to Lady Antrim, ancestress of the Australian 2YO Filly of the Year Arma Xpress and the Hunter Cup winner Honolua Bay.
Goodtime Sammy was an exciting juvenile, being undefeated in four starts including the Victoria Youthful Stakes and a heat and semi-final of the Australian Pacing Gold before an injury halted his career.
Had he remained sound there seemed little doubt that he would have been one of the best horses of his time.
Goodtime Sammy, who was first at the stud in Victoria, has already sired some useful winners from mainly unselected mares.
On his dam’s side Goodtime Sammy comes from a family which has made a real impact on the Australian breeding scene. His dam Grace’s Beach left six foals to race for six winners, five of whom took records of 2:00 or better.
Grace’s Beach was a half-sister to the Victorian Metropolitan Cup winner Goodtime Marjie, being by Beach Towel from Next Strike, a What’s Next half-sister to the Australian Pacing Gold winner Exotic Strike and a member of the same tribe as the Victoria The Graduate winner Spiritwriter and the Tasmanian Cup victor The Shallows.
Goodtime Sammy’s pedigree combines the blood of successful sires Somebeachsomewhere, Mach Three, French Chef, What’s Next, Muckalee Strike and Aachen.
An upstanding bay horse of 16 hands, Goodtime Sammy will stand for a fee of $1,500. His progeny will be eligible for the attractive Double Westbred bonuses.
He should prove a worthwhile addition to the ranks of Western Australian sires.
