Benstud Standardbreds, who set a benchmark for Australian breeding when they bred two sub 1:50 winners on the same night in North America last month, will long remember the first weekend of October 2020.
The company, one of Australia’s biggest and best known standardbred breeding and agistment establishments, had no less than 11 winners bred and reared on their Goulburn Valley farm.
Undoubtedly the standout performer was the homebred Stars Align, who captured the $US75,000 Dayton Derby Consolation in a career-best 1:48.2 at Dayton Raceway, Ohio.
Five youngsters bred at Benstud qualified for the rich Vicbred Home Grown Classic finals at Ballarat including two heat winners in Rogue Wave (1:53.9) and Knights Templar (1:55.1). Other qualifiers were Tough Tilly, Sumomentsomewhere and Momentslikethese.
Sir Roman (1:56.9 and Regal Scribe (1:58.4), both bred at Benstud, scored at Globe Derby Park.
Other winners bred and reared at Benstud last weekend were Major Assassin, a winner in 1:57.4 at Melton, Rossini (1:53.1, Wagga), Miss Sonic Boom (1:58.8, Newcastle), Somedan (1:58.8, Launceston), Kennys Killer (Canberra) and the trotter Peregrine Phoenix (Cranbourne).
