Leading harness racing trainer Jason Grimson and his stable driver Jack Callaghan look to have unearthed another rising star with Im The Falcon (Bettors Delight) after the gelding fought off his rivals to win the listed PJ Hall Free For All at Menangle Park last night.
Up until November, Im The Falcon had done all of his racing in New Zealand and has now win his last three races at Menangle for Grimson.
It was a confident drive by Callaghan who settled in behind the leader Whereyabinboppin who set a fast pace in the lead. It was a matter of when Callaghan could extract Im The Falcon off the fence and he did so on straightening. Despite the fast finishing Terry and Pete Said So, Im The Falcon held on as he recorded a brilliant 1.49.8 over the 1609 metres.
Both Terry and Pete Said So came from well back to fill the placings.
IM THE FALCON REPLAY
The win gave Grimson and Callaghan a winning treble on the night.
Earlier in the night, promising gelding Miki Pins (Always B Miki) scored his fourth win on end for trainer Jason Grimson when he strode away to take out the BestinBeds pace.
In a small but select field, Bluto showed dazzling early speed to take up the running. From his barrier 6 driver Jack Callaghan allowed Miki Pins to settle early before racing outside the leader. Miki Pins started to pressurise the leader and he raced clear on straightening to come away from the pack comfortably defeating Promiseland and Promising.
Raced by prominent owner Mick Boots, Miki Pins looks a serious contender to move through the classes. The five year old gelding was formerly prepared in the Riverina but his recent efforts indicate that there are better things to come. Heās only been in the Jason Grimson stable since November but looks every inch a top performer in the making.
Then in two races later Compete (Sweet Lou) who had been previously prepared by Emma Stewart at Ballarat led all the way to take out the Third Heat of the New Year Gift.
Like both Im The Falcon and Miki Pins, Compete has only been a recent addition to the Grimson stable and he should also work his way through the classes.
