Hard work to pay off for Gangle

Wagga Harness Racing Club CEO Greg Gangle believes tonight’s Group 1 Riverina Championships meeting could break all records for the club.

Since the opening of the new Riverina Paceway precinct in 2019, the club has seen healthy crowds and a spike in betting turnover, particularly on the bigger race days.

Perfect weather is predicted for tonight’s meeting, giving Gangle the confidence that it will be a big night.

“We have put so much into this meeting,” said Gangle.

“Obviously the racing will be the main attraction.

“I am really impressed with not only the size of the fields right throughout the night but also the quality.

“Our club has plenty planned off the track, including live music, good food and beverage facilities and entertainment for the children.

“Something a little different this year is an in-depth look into the drivers and their careers trackside before they take the reins in the feature races.”

Gangle who has an extensive background in harness racing in North America and Canada has been in the chair at Riverina Paceway since June last year and guides a hard working board of directors led by President Terry McMillan.

“None of this would be possible without a strong team effort,” he said.

“I work with people who are passionate about the industry in the Riverina.

“Between them and all at HRNSW we have worked hard to ensure that this meeting is the best it can be.”

The feature races tonight are to be run at Group One level and following competitive qualifying heats night last Sunday night, the scene is set for some thrilling finals.

The Ladex Mares Championship final sees champion mare Anntonia drawn on the outside of the backline.

Her and the other heat winner Winona Writer were both impressive in winning their heats, while there were others that qualified who are not without a chance.

Similar can be said for the Millbrae Quarries Entries and Geldings final with heat winners Jay Ok and Ideal Dan appearing to be the standouts.

Jay Ok has had a breakout season this year and is looking to make it three on the bounce tonight, while Ideal Dan is also on a winning streak, with three wins in a row, including the Group 3 Young Cup in March.
