Hunter Valley harness racing trainer Clayton Harmey will head to his local track at Newcastle on Monday with another Group 2 winner added to his list of credits.
Harmey won the Breeders Challenge True Blue Series at Menangle on Saturday night with his two-year-old colt Saint Crusader.
Driven by fellow Hunter Valley horseman Mark Callaghan, the pair withstood a protest from the second-placed Im Vexatious to win the $50,000 feature for 100 per cent New South Wales bred horses.
āHe will have a spell,ā said Harmey after Saint Crusader registered his fifth win in nine starts.
āHopefully he can grow and mature a bit during his time off and come back better next season for races such as the Bathurst Carnival.ā
That was Harmeyās fourth Group success in the last two years.
It was also Callaghanās fourth Group success as a driver.
Saint Crusader is by Courage Under Fire and clocked a personal best 1:53.8 in his feature success.
