Talented two-year-old Hazewillrev (Art Major) kept his unbeaten harness racing record intact when he led all the way to score at his second race track appearance when scoring in the Crown Lager Two Year Old in Launceston on Friday night.
Backed in from $2.30 to start the $1.80 favourite, trainer-driver Craig Hayes took Hazewillrev straight to the early lead, where he ran quarters in 29.4s, 32.3s, 30.1s before dashing away from his rivals in 27.9, to score by 7.9m over Vincenzo ($11) and Moveslikealady ($2.60).
The mile rating of 1m 59.7s for the 1680m distance was the first time the two-year-olds have broken 2m 0.0s in Tasmania this season.
āHe is certainly quick enough. Iām not sure if he is strong enough, you donāt find that out until you need to,ā Hayes said before the race.
Connections purchased the pacer for $45,000 at last yearās APG Melbourne Sale, and not being Tasbred limits the pacersā options going forward this season.
āHe will head to the paddock, and we will get him ready for the Sweepstakes (which commences with heats in late August),ā the trainer-driver explained.
Driving honours at Fridayās meeting were shared between Rohan Hillier (Taxi Meter and Christian Jaz) and Mark Yole (Syzate and Montana Lad), while Ben Yole was the only trainer to record multiple wins with a treble (Karalta Dazzler, Gobsmacked, and Montana Lad).
