Exciting He’s Watching three-year-old Private Eye tuned up for the Group 1 $125,000 NSW Breeders Challenge Final at Menangle on October 24 with an emphatic win in a heat at Bathurst on Wednesday night (October 7).
Having his first start for nearly eight months, the gelding pinged straight to the front from the pole and gradually increased the tempo.
He carved out fractions of 29.6, 29.7, 27.2 and 27 for an overall mile rating for the 1730 metres of 1:53.2 – a new lifetime mark.
The winning margin was an amazing 37 metres.

Private Eye is now unbeaten in three attempts.
Bred by Success Stud, the gelding is the third foal of the Listed winner Oh Eye See 1:54.5 ($101,705), an Armbro Operative daughter of the broodmare gem Grace Robinson.
In New Zealand, the He’s Watching mare Watch Me Now stretched her winning sequence to four with a very impressive performance at Addington. After leading early, the mare handed up before retaking the lead at the 600 metre mark.
She won by 3-1/4 lengths in a 1:56.2 rate over 1980 metres.
The winner of five of her seven lifetime starts, Watch Me Now is the third foal and winner out of the Mach Three mare Mach N Elle.
In Canada, the He’s Watching two-year-old Socrates Blue Chip finished a close third in the $104,800 Ontario Sire Stakes Gold division at Flamboro Downs.
He’s Watching 1:46.8 ($1.1 million), a multiple world record holder, is standing this season at Tipperary Equine stud, Young (NSW) of Luke Primmer.
