Melton put on the heats of the APG Vic Bred Super Series for the three year olds on Friday and racing was keenly contested.

The first heat for the fillies was taken out by the unfancied Lets Go Lorna (Always B Miki) who upset her more favoured harness racing rivals.

LETS GO LORNA NOV 7 REPLAY

Caught wide early Lets Go Lorna ended up getting some cover by driver James Herbertson although she had done a fair amount of work. Carry On Cornish was taken to the lead. Favourite ALifetimeforliving was given the run of the race behind the leader.

Alifetimeforliving looked as if she might steal the race but Lets Go Lorna having had a tough run switched to the inside and finished too well for Alifetimeforliving with Tivoli who was wide in the final lap battling on for third ahead of Brighton who came from well back.

Lets Go Lorna is royally bred being the first progeny of former classy mare Berisari who claimed 21 races and a best mile rate of 1.52.

Berisari was third in the Victoria Oaks and won the Empire for 3YO fillies as well as the Empire VicBred and the Angelique Club Cup. She was raced by Gary Murnane who has kept the ownership of Lets Go Lorna.

Australia’s leading three year old Soho Americano (American Ideal) gave yet another powerful when she won the second heat. Fresh from her outstanding win in the Victoria Oaks, Soho Americano was driven a treat by Luke McCarthy who angled off the inside second row draw to take up the one out and one back trail.

The well fancied Let Her Roll was taken to the lead by Ryan Sanderson and ran a very fast 27.6 seconds for her third quarter. But Soho Americano was equal to the task and taking the inside run she quickly got the better of Let Her Roll winning by five metres with Joyride a further nine metres away third.

Soho Americano rated 1.55.2 for the 2240 metres and on that run she will take no end of beating in the $100,000 Final at Melton on November 22.

Beach Diamond (Somebeachsomewhere) was runner up in the Victoria Oaks made her mark when she blitzed her rivals to with the third heat.

A raging hot favourite there was nothing else backed to beat her. Taken back to the rear of the field by driver Ryan Sanderson, Beach Diamond took with under two laps to travel but Ideal Moth went in front of her.

That didn’t worry Beach Diamond as she stepped on the gas in the back straight to leave her rivals standing. Eased down at the line, she had over 20 metres to spare over Flojos Best with Harley Lane who was held up doing her best work for third.

Beach Diamond rated 1.56 and she will be a worthy rival to Soho Americano in the Final.

Her win completed a double for trainer Emma Stewart and driver Ryan Sanderson.
