Australian reinsman James Herbertson made an immediate impression at his Swedish debut, notching up his first European win at Gävle on Tuesday night (Wednesday AEST).

Partnering with Ready West in Race 7 for top trainer and his Swedish host, Jörgen Westholm, Herbertson made his intentions clear from the outset, spearing straight to the lead from barrier three.
The pair controlled the race throughout, with Ready West always appearing in command before cruising to a comfortable victory.
His victory was the first by an Australian at Gavle.

It capped a strong night for the 25-year-old Victorian, who had earlier run fourth on 100/1 outsider Mr Moustache in Race 3, and third on Luigi Mearas in Race 4, who extended his record to four placings from as many starts.

The win marks a significant milestone in Herbertson’s international journey, which has included victories in the U.S. and now Europe.
Herbertson’s parents Ashleigh and Jody and his partner Ewa Justice were on-track at Gavle to enjoy the win.
Herbertson continues his European experience as part of the prestigious Elitloppet week.
