History created as driver gets 300 wins in one season

Queensland harness racing driver Peter McMullen wrote his name in the record books when driving a double at Albion Park on Friday and creating history.

It was not the double that was so significant, however, the result pushed him to 300 winners this season – the first driver in Queensland to ever achieve the feat.

Peter McMullen created history at Albion Park on Friday driving 300 winners for the season.

McMullen hit 299 winners for the term on the Chantal Turpin-trained Awaywego and seven races and three drives later won with the Graham Dwyer-trained Williewa Lightning to give McMullen the significant milestone.

The 30-year-old reinsman has the nickname of ‘Leader Peter’ because of his driving style and fittingly it was Dwyer’s son Layne that gave McMullen the moniker many years ago.

McMullen has driven more than a century of winners in every season since 2009/10 and in the last handful of years has edged closer to doubling that result.

Last season, McMullen drove 283 winners in the extended season.

These results have given McMullen 2414 wins in his career that started in the 2007/08 season.

McMullen is not only on track to claim another Queensland Drivers’ Premiership but he is also on track to claiming the Australian title with no other driver in the country to drive as many winners as he has this term so far.
