Somebeachsomewhere gelding Honolua Bay is the only horse to go through harness racing’s Inter Dominion Pacing Championship this year undefeated.
The five-year-old won his second heat within three days at Shepparton on Saturday night (Nov. 29).
Doing a power of work posted three-wide, Honolua Bay toughed it out in a blanket finish to beat Bundoran by a head and Max Delight a neck away in third.
Bundoran held them all out at the start from barrier one to lead and as the first quarter was posted in 27.5 seconds, moves were made.
Reinsman Greg Sugars urged Better Eclipse three-wide outside the leader and then eventually driver David Moran and Honolua Bay also made a move.
Honolua Bay was posted three-wide for the majority of the last lap as they clocked the last two quarters in 27.3 and 28 seconds.
The mile rate was 1:53.7 – the slowest of the pacing heats of the night.
HONOLUA BAY REPLAY
“It was a poor drive to say the least but he was good enough to get the job done,” said Moran.
“He was absolutely bolting around the home turn.
“He’s really starting to toughen up, up to that grade.”
Emma Stewart trains Honolua Bay and has won four Inter Dominion heats this series so far.
