Veteran Hot and Treacherous (Captaintreacherous) who has had a colourful and varied career finally broke through for a well deserved harness racing win in the Leading Edge Security Junior Free For All at Albion Park on Saturday night.

Drawn favourably in two, Hot And Treacherous quickly found the lead to hold out Hector. Showing a touch of his old class Hot And Treacherous ran a scintillating 26.7 seconds for the first quarter and many questioned whether he could continue such a hot pace.
But driver Layne Dwyer seemed to be driving confidently and released the brakes to run another sizzling third quarter in 26.8 seconds to well and truly break up the field. He was entitled to get tired but still ran 27.8 seconds in the final quarter.
Both District Attorney and Call To Order rapidly made up in the home straight but it was too late and Hot And Treacherous held on determinedly.
HOT AND TREACHEROUS 3 JAN REPLAY
Early in his career in New Zealand Hot And Treacherous was prepared by Brian and Gareth Hughes and driven by the great Maurice McKendry. He won the Race by Grins at Cambridge and the Flying Mile at the same track.
He was then transferred to Australia where he was trained by Jack Butler in Queensland before joining Jason Grimson’s stables where he won a couple of free for alls at Menangle. Owner John Livingstone bought him under his own trainership. But his win last night was probably his finest run in recent times given his brilliant time of 1.50.9.
Hothooves the dam of Hot And Treacherous has only had two other progeny namely Hotfoot It (American Ideal) who in Western Australia has won over $152,000 and a best time of 1.56.8. Her other progeny is the consistent Queenslander Major Hot (Art Major) who’s gone 1.52.2 winning eight races including the Queensland Derby.
Although now an eight year old Hot And Treacherous still has plenty of zip and it’s a credit to his trainer John Livingstone having him look so fresh and in top condition. On that performance he’ll continue to win races in similar company.
