Long time harness racing supporter Brian Ingram was elected Mayor of Young on Wednesday night at the town's Council Chambers.
Mr Ingram has been a well respected owner, breeder and administrator in the sport for a number of years and HRNSW CEO John Dumesny congratulated Mr Ingram on the honour.
"This seems like a coup for Brian and I can envisage the advantages harness racing will be the beneficiaries of in the future," Mr Dumesny said.
"Brian has worked tirelessly for the sport for many years, I would like to wish him all the best in his future endeavours and despite an increased workload I'm sure he will still be involved in harness racing in and around Young."
Mr Ingram confirmed he is looking forward to his new role but confirms it is a big responsibility he is now taking on.
"Being the Mayor of Young is the pinnacle of any administration role that I've had in my life," Mr Ingram said.
"I've got some very big shoes to fill and I'm very passionate about the town and the wider community so I'm looking forward to the exciting challenge."
As part of the progressive Young Harness Racing Club, Mr Ingram is confident everything is moving in the right direction.
"The Club has a very experienced committee currently and a strong base of good workers who ensure success, if my new duties force me to step back, I'm very confident someone will step forward to fill the hole but I can assure people that I won't be too far away.
"I'm an open book and I wear my heart on my sleeve."
