Rejuvenated trotter Im Bobby (Majestic Son) completed a hat trick of harness racing wins when he took out the Legend Gordon Rothacker & George Gath Trot at Melton.

Sent out the $1.45 favorite, Im Bobby was given time to balance up early by James Herbertson before assuming control with 1600 metres to travel and the Eddie Tappe prepared five-year-old was untroubled to score from I Dream Of Millie and Minimez.

Herbertson said the son of Majestic Son handled the distance trip admirably.

“He’s been more predominately a miler but tonight he had to step up to the long trip and up in class and to his credit he was able to hold them off,” Herbertson said.

“He was only doing what he had to do,  he doesn’t wear ear plugs and is quite lazy sometimes, it’s pretty windy out there tonight but to his credit he stuck to his guns,” he said.

Herbertson believes Im Bobby will prove competitive over the longer distance in time.

“He still needs to keep improving, he’s more of a miler as he’s got a pretty high cruising speed for a while but I just don’t know whether he can sustain it over the longer trip just yet,” he said.

“But as he gets older he will get stronger and have a bit more of a bottom to his tank for these longer races.”

The 24-year-old Herbertson, who has been in scintillating form of late, has now driven 201 winners for the season and with four months remaining is on track to eclipse his previous best of 252 he set last season.
