Group 1 winning race mare Im Ready Jet (Quaker Jet) broke through for a well deserved win when she outstayed her harness racing rivals in the Peter Egan Electrical Trotters Free For All at Maryborough.Ā
Rated the main danger to the $1.80 favorite Harry Stamper, Im Ready Jet ($4.40) was forced to sit parked outside the popular elect and the pair appeared set to fight out the finish as Im Ready Jet drew level with the leader around the home turn.Ā
In a thrilling finish it was Im Ready Jet who stuck her head out on the line to get the verdict by a half neck from Harry Stamper with the comeback trotter Plymouth Chubb a gallant third four metres away.Ā
Im Ready Jet has been placed in eight of her nine starts since winning at Melton in February.Ā
Driver Nathan Jack believes Im Ready Jet will provide stiff opposition for Queen Elida when the pair next meet.Ā
āIām sure she will give herĀ a run for her money, Iām not saying she will beat her because Iāve got the utmost respect for Queen Elida but this mare been a great mare for a long time, āJack saidĀ Ā
āShe had a bit of an off season last season whenĀ nothing went right and she had a couple of little issues but itās good to have her back thatās for sure,ā he said.Ā
Jack said the Anton Golino trained daughter of Quaker Jet is on track to contest a third consecutive Great Southern Star Final after being placed in the past two editions of the race.Ā
āSheās a beautiful strong mare and come Southern Star time she will be rock hard and fit,ā he said.Ā
The winner aside, the story of the race was the outstanding performance of the Peter Manning trained Plymouth Chubb who went in to the race without a trial following an injury enforced eight-month absence from the race track.Ā
