Im Themightylucy chasing second win for the week

South Australian trained mare Im Themightylucy (Sweet Lou) will be chasing her second win in Tasmania for the week when she lines up in the Stacey Lear Photography Pace (2200m) in Launceston on Friday night.

The mare won last week’s $14,000 Leigh Plunkett in Launceston, which followed a Port Pirie win early in the month.

The well-travelled mare has also won races in New Zealand and Western Australia, including two 3YO metropolitan wins at Gloucester Park.

“We brought her (from New Zealand) to come to Adelaide for the SA Oaks and a few other features, and we rushed her when we got her. She galloped at her first start in Australia and she was just immature and just needed time,” said trainer Aaron Bain.

“We sent her to WA for the WA Oaks, and she started the second favourite, but things just didn’t work out, and she probably didn’t suit that race as she doesn’t have much gate speed. She is a get-back and run-on horse.

“We made the decision to bring her home recently as things weren’t working out over there, and her win at Port Pirie was really good as they went so slow. Hes All Torque is a nice horse in his own right, and she went 26.7 (seconds) to beat him up the lane,” the trainer added.

Bain has sent one of his stable employees, Samantha Pascoe, over to drive the pacer on Friday. The mare is also engaged in Hobart, where Mark Yole is booked for the drive.

“It’s a good opportunity for Sam. She is probably the best young driver over here at the moment. She has worked her way through the ranks in recent years and has outdriven her claim; there won’t be any instructions given. She knows the horse really well, and she knows what she is doing,” said Bain.

The trainer is expecting to have more runners from his stable race in the state in the future.

“We are probably going to do it with a few more. She was a test case to see about the travel. She travelled from Adelaide to Melbourne and then Melbourne to Tassie on Wednesday and Thursday. And with the $14,000 Leigh Plunkett last week and suitable races this week,” said the trainer.
