Consistency paid off when it counted most for Victorian filly Momentslikethese.
The daughter of Art Major collected her first Group 1 trophy when winning the Queensland Oaks at Albion Park tonight in a personal best mile rate of 1:55.7.
Driven by Luke McCarthy, who has partnered the Jess Tubbs-prepared pacer in her two Queensland starts, Momentslikethese was able to overcome a wide barrier draw to cause a minor upset when beating the favourite, Soho Broadway, by a head.
āShe went really well last week from a tough draw and made really good ground,ā said McCarthy.
āWe got outside them tonight and controlled the speed.
āItās great to get a Group 1 win for the connections.
āSome of the connections came down to the stables before the race and got a photo with her and will no doubt get a kick out of winning a Group 1 tonight.ā
Momentslikethese is raced by Alabar 2019 No1 Syndicate made up of 27 owners.
She was purchased for $42,000 at the 2019 Melbourne Australian Pacing Gold Yearling Sale.
This victory extended her record to seven wins and nine placings in 25 starts, giving her earnings of $146,825.
