Sydney based junior reinsman Jack Brown is on the verge of achieving an important milestone in his short harness racing career.
The 18-year-old has only been driving for two years but already has 97 wins to his credit.
This weekend, Brown will be hoping to draw closer to that elite century of wins when he drives at both Newcastle tonight and Menangle on Saturday.
Brown has had the advantage of being raised in the sport, his first real introduction being regular participation within mini trotting movement before graduating to the professional level in 2021.
The up and coming talent currently works with leading mentor Jack Trainor at the Menangle Training Centre and is considered by his peers as one of the best junior drivers in the state.
“It has been a great introduction to the sport for me,ā said Brown.
āI have been incredibly lucky to have been afforded the opportunities that I have, firstly from my family followed by those from within the industry who believe in and back my ability.
āTo get these numbers on the board so quickly is something I never thought I could achieve.
“But I work hard and commit to continuous improvement, always accepting advice and guidance from the experienced people around me which does make it easier.
āAnd I do set myself targets along the way, so it will be great if I can tick off the hundred-win milestone in the coming weeks.”Ā
Brown has three drives at Newcastle and one at Menangle tomorrow night.
His best winning chance at Newcastle tonight does appear to be with 14-year-old warhorse Don Boston (Ponder) in race four.
Trained by Brad Abbott at Menangle Park, Don Boston will be having his 289thĀ race start but is racing as well as ever, being a Bathurst winner on March 1.
No doubt Brown will look to use the horse’s best asset, his scintillating speed from the starting gate to lead and will then attempt to run his rivals ragged over mile trip.
“Don is a cool old horse that I always enjoy driving,ā said Brown.
“Brad has him racing well despite his big age which is a real credit to both horse and trainer.
“With his proven high early speed, I am confident that he can lead and then should take some running down.ā
