Harness racing reinsman Jack Trainor certainly has a knack to winning fillies feature races.
So, when trainer Jess Tubbs needed another driver after Blake Fitzpatrick became indisposed, who better to call on than Trainor?
The 28-year-old driver had won six Group 1 races, prior to Saturday night (Aug.27), with all those victories in races for either fillies or mares.
Trainor then added to this Group 1 tally when winning the $175,000 Nutrien Equine Two-Year-Old Fillies Final with Tubbsā pacer Somethin Bout Eily.
And to top it all off, the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere broke her maiden in the process.
āI picked up the drive through poor circumstances to Blake, who everyone knows is my biggest mentor,ā said Trainor.
Trainor spent many years working for Fitzpatrick before breaking away and establishing his own team at the Menangle Park Training Centre.
Fitzpatrick qualified Somethin Bout Eily when finishing third with her in the Prelude at Menangle last Tuesday week.
However, after being kicked by a horse was unable to fulfill his drive in the final.
Thatās where Trainor has stepped in and after starting from barrier five, the reinsman was able to position Somethin Bout Eily $7 back in the running line.
Lochinvar Xena led and driver Luke McCarthy let her roll through the first three quarters in 30.1, 30.3 and 29.3 seconds.
Rounding the home turn Somethin Bout Eily let down and overcome a final split of 28.7 to win by more than a metre over Ludacrous and Lochinvar Xena.
The mile rate for the 2300m feature was 1:58.2.
SOMETHIN BOUT EILY REPLAY
āShe just travelled so well the whole race. She felt like the winner and let down with a really strong run,ā driver Jack Trainor.
āItās great to do this for Jess, she seems to be making a habit of (winning) these Group 1s.ā
Tubbs has now trained five Group 1 winners with three of those obtained this year.
