Jack ready to add to his feature race haul

Victorian harness racing reinsman Nathan Jack is no stranger to winning Group 1 races: the 37-year-old reinsman has won 30 of them.

Regarded as one of Australia’s best freelance drivers, Jack heads to Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night looking to add to his impressive tally in feature races when he takes the reins behind the unbeaten Anton Golino-trained youngster Gotfeelingsyouknow (Majestic Son) in the Schweppes New South Wales Trotters Derby.

A son of the champion Canadian trotting sire Majestic Son, Gotfeelingsyouknow is unbeaten in his four Victorian outings with Jack in the gig.

But the gelding faces his toughest test to date on Saturday when he takes on some of Australia’s best young square gaiters including NSW Trotters Oaks Winner Rockinwithattitude and in-form Sydneysiders Moonwalka and London To A Brick.

Despite drawing wide to start from gate nine, Jack is confident the three-year-old is up to the task of overcoming his adverse draw and winning the $75,000 feature.

“He is a very nice gelding with an impeccable record, and even though there are some promising young trotters in Saturday’s race, I would not swap my drive for any other,” said Jack. 

“Anton is one of the most talented trainers of trotters and I have no doubt he will have this fellow spot-on for the Derby. 

“We have a great relationship and I enjoy driving his horses.” 

Pheasants Nest trainer Russell Commens has seized the opportunity to book Jack to drive Alluring Tyron in the Slingsby Holdings Bulli Trotters Cup, hoping that the mare can return to the form that saw her score back-to-back wins in March, including victory in the TAB App Trotters Cup at Bathurst.

The feature race on tonight’s program at Penrith is a qualifying heat of the NSW Bred three-year-old series which has attracted an evenly-graded field.

The series for both two and three-year-olds culminates with $30,000 finals at Tabcorp Park Menangle on June 3.

The Troy Primmer-trained No Dramas is favourite for tonight’s heat, despite resuming from a spell.

The filly was last seen on August 30 when she finished second at Menangle but has had three recent trials at the premier track which should have her primed for a strong first up showing.

Her main dangers have all drawn off the back line.
