Reinsman Jack Trainor has surged to the top of harness racing’s New South Wales Drivers’ Premiership.
Trainor bypassed front-runner Luke McCarthy after driving half the program at Menangle last night.
Trainor drove four winners on the metropolitan card to give him 75 winners for the season, one more than McCarthy.
“That was the first time I drove four winners at a metropolitan meeting,” said Trainor.
Trainor’s milestone came courtesy of wins with The Stunning Nun for trainer Jason Grimson, Caligula for Blake Fitzpatrick and then two wins for trainer Peter Russo with pacers Jimmy Locke and Beau Cishlom.
“Jimmy Locke was a surprise win even though he has been racing well but it was a strong field, the rest had good form going into their races,” said Trainor.
Trainor will be hoping to continue the success with close to a full book of drives at Bankstown on Monday with engagements in seven of the eight races and Menangle on Tuesday with drives in six of the eight races.
Born in New Zealand, Trainor began his driving career in the 2011/12 season and has driven 556 winners to date.
He relocated to Australia in 2013 and has worked with trainers Shane Tritton, Kevin Pizzuto and Blake Fitzpatrick.
Trainor now trains a small team of his own at the Menangle Park Training Centre and has trained 30 winners – 22 of those wins have been this season.
