She is the top two-year-old in Australia this harness racing season and Captaintreacherous filly Jewel Melody proved why at Albion Park on Saturday night (Aug. 20).
Jewel Melody captured her fourth Group 1 win in 11 starts when winning the $103,990 QBRED Triad Final.
She did the work, racing three-wide to find the lead, and burst away from her rivals to win by 13m in a slick mile rate of 1:53.6.
It is no surprise that this filly has clocked a faster time than this.
She has been a standout this season with this latest victory pushing her earnings to $309,094, making her the richest two-year-old in the country.
Trained and driven by Bernie Hewitt, Jewel Melody adds this win to her list of credits that also includes the Bathurst Gold Tiara, the Australian Pacing Gold Final and the Albion Park Gold Final.
āItās unbelievable to have a filly like this and she seems to do it so easy,ā said Hewitt.
āHer work has been terrific and sheās just getting better.
āHer individual times are better than my free-for-all horses.ā
JEWEL MELODY REPLAY
Jewel Melody will head back to Bathurst, New South Wales, for a break before being aimed at another interstate trip, this time to Victoria later in the year.
āShe will have a three-week break and go to the Breeders Crown,ā said Hewitt.
