Some punters go with lucky numbers, birthdays and anniversaries or stick to favourite colours—and we’ve all heard of the weird and wonderful betting strategies people swear by.

But what about a harness racing lucky letter? Those who have a soft spot for the the letter “J”—would have been feeling pretty pleased with themselves after the Geelong meeting last Friday night (May 16).
Incredibly, each of the eight races was won by a driver whose name starts with “J”.
While there weren’t any huge blowouts, an average starting price of around 4/1 would have made for some very happy punters—and possibly a celebratory brew or two!
Jordan Leedham and Jackie Barker led the charge, both posting winning doubles. Other drivers joining the “J” party were John Caldow, John Justice, Jason Lee and Jodi Quinlan.
As the seventh consonant of the English alphabet, “J” is often overlooked—but clearly not on Friday night! Here’s how it played out:
Race 1 – Dance Affair ($5.50) – Jordan Leedham
Race 2 – Rocky Valley ($5.00) – John Caldow
Race 3 – Calypso Mistress ($4.00) – Jackie Barker
Race 4 – In An Ideal World ($2.70) – John Justice
Race 5 – Fling It Rainbow ($3.90) – Jason Lee
Race 6 – Send In Elvis ($3.80) – Jackie Barker
Race 7 – Jay Bee ($5.50) – Jodi Quinlan
Race 8 – Midnite Desire ($5.50) – Jordan Leedham
Any Scrabble player will tell you—words starting with “J” can be big winners. And on Friday night at Geelong, the same rule definitely applied!
