Promising mare Surfingmakescents (Vincent) continued her winning streak when she ran her harness racing rivals ragged in the $30,000 Alabar Vicbred Platinum Mares Sprint Championship Final at Melton.

Sent out the $1.35 favorite, the Kerryn Manning trained and driven mare worked to the lead and that’s the last her opposition saw of her.

Manning turned the event into a genuine staying test as Surfingmakescents broke clear approaching the home turn after throwing a 27.7 back straight quarter at her rivals in recording a mile rate of 1:52.6. for the 1720 metres.

The daughter of Vincent has now saluted at her past four starts.

Manning said Surfingmakescents was inclined to lose concentration when well clear in the lead.

“It’s been a bad habit of hers but this time in she has been a lot better so when she switched off at the top of the straight I knew Le Belle Bijoux would keep coming at me, but she sort of got going again,” Manning said.

Manning said she will aim the mare at feature races down the track.

“She’ll keep going through the grades at the moment but she’s certainly got the ability to run in the better races later on,” she said.

“That’s why it was so disappointing that she fell over heading into the Oaks because she was going well and we thought she had a bit of a chance.

She’s certainly got the goods, it’s just a matter of her brain working properly.”
