Noted speedster Kingman (Always B Miki) showed what he’s made of when he gave a dazzling front running display to take out the Best In Beds Pace at Menangle on Saturday evening.

The race was seen as a match between Kingman and the grand veteran Max Delight with the former drawn in eight and the latter in nine.
Kingman commenced well from the outside but Helluva from the inside draw initially held the lead but with Luke McCarthy driving forward, Kingman worked his way to the front.
KINGMAN SEP 20 REPLAY
In contrast Max Delight was also caught wide and when Will Rixon could not obtain a one out position he had no option to ease back to the rear.
McCarthy keep the speed rolling with the first two quarters in 27.3 and 28.9 seconds. Helluva took the trail behind the leader and Classic Mission right behind. Ubetcha Tigerpie had a one out and one back trail. With the pace picking up again in the third quarter run in 27.3 seconds, it was obvious that those back in the field would have trouble making up ground.

Kingman went for home on the final bend and although Ubetcha Tigerpie finished on well he was never likely to catch the leader. The much improved Classic Mission came up along the fence to be beaten just under six metres from Kingman and just edging out Ubetcha Tigerpie.
Kingman ran exactly 1.50 for the mile journey an impressive feat indeed.
Max Delight to finish fifth after being a clear last in the final lap. Will Rixon threaded his way through the field but he couldn’t up enough ground given the slick time of 26.5 seconds for the last quarter. Thus his run is best forgotten. Max Delight is still likely to come down to Melton for the Group 1 $250,000 Victoria Cup on October 18.
Like McCarthy has a high opinion of Kingman.
“I thought his run in the Len Smith was super. He only just stepped into that open company and he’s still only a four year old. For him to come out a fortnight after running that really good time. It puts him in good stead for some races going forward.”
“He’s always been a good horse. He really likes racing here at Menangle so I’ll give him another run here in a fortnight. If he’s up to the task we’ll take him to have a look at the Victoria Cup and there’s plenty of good races at the start of the new year.”
“Mick Harvey (the owner) loves this horse he bred him. I’m sure that he’s going to do a really good job with him.”
