Promising filly Kiss (Always B Miki) showed something special with a most impressive harness racing victory in the Nutrine Equine 3YO fillies Semi Final at Melton.
Runner up in the Victoria Oaks Kiss settled behind her stablemate Waterfront who had won her previous nine appearances including last weekendās Tasmanian Oaks.
Waterfront ran her 3rd and 4th final quarters in 27.4 seconds but she was powerless to stop the fast sprint of Kiss who appeared to have something in reserve in her 3 metre win with Sweet Ideal a further 5 metres away third.
It was trainer Emma Stewartās fifth success for the evening and gave James Herbertson a winning treble.
Kiss did her early racing in New Zealand and started her racing career in Australia in late June of this year. While she had only scored once previously at Kilmore Kiss has continued to improve and appears to have a very promising career ahead.
Waterfront was far from disgraced particularly when considered that she ran fast final sectionals but on the night Kiss proved to be the better filly on the night.
Emma Stewart made it six winners on the evening when her consistent filly Eureka Jo (Bettors Delight) led all the way to take out the second semi final for 3YO fillies.Ā
From the pole Eureka Jo held the lead despite an early challenge by Fearless Writer. Driver Mark Pitt gave Eureka Jo a breather mid way and she was given full rein on straightening. Stablemate Stitched Up Dan pulled out to sprint quickly along the back straight with SweetNikkiLou even wider on the final bend.Ā
Eureka Jo was getting tired but she had enough in reserve to hold off SweetNikkiLou who lost no admirers running second ahead of Stitched Up Dan.
While deserving of her success it would seem that Kiss would have her measure in the final and it appears that the Final is Kissās to lose.
