North-west coast trainer Geoff Smith will aim Letsgobro (Four Starzzz Shark) at the $20,000 Devonport Quality in Launceston this weekend after his all-the-way harness racing win in the Defibrillator Lodge PaceĀ (2090m) in Hobart on Sunday night.
Letsgobro was sent out the $2.50 favourite in the NR 68 to 74 event after the late scratching of Sharkattack.
From barrier two, driver Kayleb Williams took Letsgobro straight to the lead and proved too tough late to score by 2.3m over Khaki Nui ($3.60), and We Salute You ($7) in a mile rate of 2:00.0s.
āI agreed with Kayleb (Williams) before the race when he said if we lead, we would win. He had been working well during the week, but he has just been unlucky in his last two or three starts,ā said Smith post-race.
āKayleb said, going down the back straight when the other horse nearly got to him, he saw it and the horse wanted to go again.
āThe run should top him for (the Devonport Quality in Launceston) next weekend. Iāll see how he pulls up in the morning (Monday), and you wouldnāt have known he went around when he came back straight after the race,ā the trained added.
Letsgobro won five of his first seven starts in Victoria before being purchased by Smith. The Four Stars Shark gelding has now won 11 of his 36 starts.
Earlier in the night, The Mighty Doc ($6.50) broke his maiden in theĀ Kelsand Saddlery PaceĀ (2090m).
It was the first win for the Kent Rattray-trained pacer at his 44th race track appearance.
Vincenzo ($8), driven by Jack Watson, broke through for his first win of the season when scoring in theĀ opening race. Trainer Juanita McKenzie said post-race that she will aim the pacer at some of the upcoming feature three-year-old races.
Rohan Hillier and Kyle Pratten shared driving honours at the meeting with a double each.
Hillier drove the Danny Malone-trained Southern Luck ($3.50 fav) to her second win of the season before giving trainer Michael Laugher his 450th training win with Crack The Vault ($3.30) later in the night.
Pratten drove two well-judged races to score with Loyola Trios ($8), whom he also trains, and Mista Eagle ($3.20).
The win of Mista Eagle completed a training double for Wayne Yole, who prepared the Mark Yole-driven James Cagney ($5.50) to victory earlier in the night.
