Liam Older preparing for a Victoria move

Talented Tasmanian junior harness racing driver Liam Older is on the move.

Older, 18, is set to leave Tasmania in late January to take up a position with trainer Julie Douglas in central Victoria.

Currently sitting fourth on the Tasmanian Junior drivers premiership, Older has driven 31 winners this season, his first full term in the sulky.

One of those wins came aboard Feel The Reign (Mr Feelgood) for Roma Pocock at Kilmore earlier this month during a week away with the Douglas camp.

“I spent a week there during the Inter Dominion as a prize from the Launceston and Carrick Club’s encouragement award, and I just loved it,” said Older.

“I went to the races every day and loved the lifestyle.

“I think the time is right to go over there and see how I go,” the five-point claiming driver said.

Older has been working full-time for trainer Todd Rattray in recent times and kicked off his career with the Michael Laugher stable, and Older has been keeping an eye on the success of Michael’s son Jack in Victoria, which played a role in his decision.

Before he makes the move north of Bass Strait, Older will be looking to add to his tally in Hobart on Friday night, where he has several good drives on the nine-race card, where he rates Believe In Forever in race five as his best chance.

“I think he is racing really well.

“They just went too slow for him over the mile in Launceston last week.

“He was the only one in the race that ran on from back in the field, and from the draw, on Friday, he should be close enough if good enough,” said Older.

The nine-race Hobart card will be shown on TasracingTV and Sky Racing 2 from 17:47.
