Former Aussie harness racing superstar Lochinvar Art (Modern Art) is starting to give new trainer Shane Tritton “that feeling” in the US.
Although he’s just two weeks into the hopple work stage, Tritton took the reins himself from wife, Lauren, just to check things out last week.
“I’ve seen him trying to kick Lauren out of the sulky each time she takes him out, so he’s obviously feeling good and enjoying things,” Tritton said.
“I jumped behind myself the other day and although we’re not at the stage of letting him rip, I got a feel of why he was so special back home.”
Lochinvar Art will do another month of hopple work, increasing as he goes, with a view to qualifying in late January.
“The first target is the Borgata series in March, so he’ll have a couple of runs in late February or early March before that,” Tritton said.
“At this stage we’re looking at all the top races with him, but the Borgata series will tell us more. He needs to earn good money through the series (five rounds of heats and a final) and show he deserves to be set for those really big races in the middle and back half of next year.”
