Mark Pitt made it a winning double when he steered unbeaten filly Looks Perfect (Always B Miki) to a strong win in the $25,000 Alabar Vicbred Platinum Homegrown Classic 2YO Fillies Final at Melton last night.

Electing to drive the heavily back favourite Looks Perfect ahead of stablemate I’ll be Gone Pitt made the right choice although I’ll Be Gone gave plenty of cheek once her driver Jackie Barker drove her to the lead. Grey filly Guaranteed End also showed speed at the start but she broke up and settled back at the rear of the field.
Wazowski had the run of the race behind the leader.
Pitt gave Looks Perfect plenty of time to settle down and she moved alongside I’ll Be Gone with a lap left to travel.
It was a game of cat and mouse between Looks Perfect and I’ll Be Gone and for a minute favourite backers had a bit of scare as Looks Perfect seemed to wobble on the final bend.
However showing a touch of class, Looks Perfect knuckled down to her task and she got the better of a plucky I’ll Be Gone with Tivoli coming from well back to take third. Guaranteed End who galloped at the start made a run three wide along the back straight before tiring in the home straight but she has ability and if she improves her race manners she will finish closer in her races.

Looks Perfect also made it a winning double for trainer Emma Stewart. The stable has a superb record with their younger performers and at this stage Looks Perfect will measure up to the top 3YO fillies races next season.
