The highlight of the Gloucester Park midweek harness racing meeting this week was turned on by the Tintin In America gelding Middlepage, who broke soon after the start and gave the leaders 50 metres start.
With two laps to run he was still 30 metres from the leaders, and his chance could have been written off. But Middlepage looped the field at the halfway mark, reached the front in the home straight and finally held off all comers.
It was his eighth success at Gloucester Park and lifted his stake tally to over $50,000.
Tintin In America was also represented by the New Zealand bred American Colt, a winner in 1:55.4 at Northfield Park, Ohio recently.
Warrawee Needy has sired a swag of winners in Australia, USA and Canada during the past fortnight. Lady Zegna won on debut at Pinjarra to become his 28th Australian bred winner from 48 starters, while St Ladās Guru (1:52.6) and Need Ur Opinion (1:53) both saluted in USA.
Warrawee Needy was also represented by three winners in Canada in Elroy Shiner (1:59), Azucar Jack (1:59.6) and Need Arocket (2:00).
Reigning NSW Sire of the Year Million Dollar Cam led in the NSW provincial winners Tallaringa Harms (1:56.7, Newcastle), Whatta Cork (1:59.9, Penrith) and Doctor Somes (Parkes) and the Globe Derby Park victor Levi Jimmy (1:58.6).
Former champion juvenile Lombo Pocket Watch sired a new three-year-old winner in Smokin Pocket, a tough winner at Temora.
