Carrick harness racing trainer Brian Mackrill is hopeful that Artyboy Glenwood (Modern Art) can continue his consistent form when he lines up in the Bevan Lee’s Butchery Pace in Launceston on Friday night.
The Modern Art gelding was out of form for several starts but has been racing consistently of late, being placed in three of his last four starts, including a win in Launceston on Sunday his first since November 2021.
“We found out he had a few things wrong with him, and it had taken some time to get on top of them.
“He is no superstar, he hasn’t been going anywhere near his best the last six months or so, but his last three or four runs have been something near his best,” said Mackrill.
The pacer settled back on the pegs in last Sunday’s race, where he finished off best once gaining clear room.
“He had a bit of luck for a change, he had all the favours and it was a good race for him on his best form.”
Artyboy Glenwood was placed when starting off a 20m handicap after racing outside the leader and will no doubt appreciate starting off the front line in Friday’s 45 or better standing start race.
“He is a good little stand horse, so hopefully he jumps away and lands in the first three or four, and if he does I think he will take a bit of beating,” said the trainer confidently.
Todd Rattray has driven the pacer in his last eight starts and retains the drive.
Friday’s Launceston program commences at 17:20 with a two-year-old, where Ryley Major’s full sister and recent Carrick trial winner, Moveslikealady, makes her race track debut.
She’s takes on what appears to be a quality field, including Hazewillrev and Didyalousaroosta, both impressive winners on debut.
