Star filly Madrid has been withdrawn from Saturday night’s harness racing feature at Menangle – the Group 3 Golden Easter Egg.
However, in good news for the daughter of Bling It On and her fans is that has had a minor setback and should be back on track soon according to trainer Jarrod Alchin.
“It’s nothing serious and she will race in the Australian Pacing Gold heats in a fortnight,” said Alchin.
Madrid has won eight of her 12 starts and has earnings just shy of $200,000.
As for Madrid’s opponents, her scratching has given them one less horse to chase.
Going by the market, the main three chances have drawn alongside each other in barriers one, two and three.
Back-to-back winner Steno, for driver Jack Callaghan, firmed into favouritism following Madrid’s removal and will start from gate two.
The second elect is Miss Ex in barrier one while the Western Districts filly Not To Be Denied has been the major market mover opening at odds of $10 and firming into $5 at one stage.
Following an impressive win at Bathurst last start, Not To Be Denied will start from three.
